You can rent movies, a vacuum, and board games from the front desk with your student ID.
There are brooms and dustpans located in the mop closet in each wing of the residence halls. You also wash your dishes there.
Laundry costs $1.50/load to wash and $1.25/load to dry. The washers are tiny so you may have to do multiple loads, but all your loads should fit into one dryer. You must bring your own detergent – either liquid or pods. It takes about 30 minutes for a wash and 60 minutes minimum to dry unless you add more dry time for extra money. Don’t leave clothes unattended. People will pull them out and put theirs in so they don’t have to pay.
Never do laundry on Sunday afternoon. That’s when everyone does their laundry and it will take you forever to get your laundry done.
Purdue has hard water which is different than what most people have at home. People with long hair expect to use more conditioner and detangler because your hair will be a tangled mess.

To those living in a dorm room without air conditioning:

Never close your windows. Bring a clip-on fan for the side of the bed.
Lofting the beds give so much more room on the floor for seating. If you choose to loft your bed, there are no ladders provided. You can either slide your dresser under the bed and use it as a step, climb up your desk, or use the rungs on the sides of the beds depending on how you position your lofted bed.
